Building The Lion’s Den

This summer, we were fortunate enough to receive funding from the Coleman Lions Club for the creation of a children's snow school (see Press Release).  We decided the most unique and versatile option was a Yurt.  This past weekend, we had a good old-fashioned Yurt building day up at PPK.  Big thanks to the members of the Coleman Lions and Pass Powderkeg Ski Society for helping to get the Yurt up and ready for use in a couple of weeks when we open the winter season on November 16. [...]

Ski Swap Tips and Tricks

Can you believe it's already time for the Crowsnest Pass Ski Swap? This 1 day event is a great way to get geared up for the winter, sign up for programs, print your season pass and start winter off on a good foot. Held at the MDM Building in Bellevue (https://goo.gl/maps/W9Q9oynq2NKy8R5x9), the Ski Swap is a long standing ski community tradition and a fundraiser for the Pass powderkeg Ski Society. People bring in their used gear, price it and sell it the next day to others who [...]

Snowmaggedon hits PPK

Pass Powderkeg saw quite the Fall major storm over the weekend with over 50cm falling from Friday night through to Monday morning, blanketing most of Southern Alberta. The storm dropped record breaking amounts of precipitation and broke cold temperature records all weekend long. While the snowfall hampered traffic throughout the region and closed schools, offices and businesses, we loved to see the ski hill covered in white again. It means winter is on it's way! Jon from Maintenance took some shots of PPK in it's winter blanket. PPK looks [...]

Final Learn to Turn Lesson Recap

Lesson 1 Recap Lesson 2 Recap Lesson 3 Recap   I’m a graduate again! This time instead of a long ceremony and weird looking hat, I received a certificate and a season’s pass. 🙂 Canadian Sport for Life has skiing on their list of movement skills to teach children. It makes sense for Canadians, our winters are long and too often we opt to hibernate indoors rather than get outside. Outdoor pursuits that get you outside enjoying exercise and fresh air is a great way to improve your mental and physical health. [...]

3rd Learn to Turn Lesson Recap

Lesson 1 Recap Lesson 2 Recap Is there anything better than a day in the mountains? Probably not. And I had SUCH a great day last Sunday when I joined several families for Canada’s Largest Lesson at Pass Powderkeg.Canada’s Largest Lesson is part of 'Never Ever Days', a special program offered at more than 80 ski areas across Canada. It encourages folks to not let affordability stop them from finally hitting the slopes with the family. It was so much fun to see all these families come out (many from as far [...]

2nd Learn to Turn Lesson Recap

Can I offer a piece of advice? Don’t take one ski lesson and think you’ve got it down because you don’t! After my first ski lesson at Pass Powderkeg, I was feeling so confident and ready to conquer the mountain but really, I wasn’t there yet. Thank goodness I signed up for more than one lesson!I was super happy to have Michael as my instructor again this time. He told me to work with other instructors because everyone has different valuable knowledge, but his peppy energy matches my own [...]
