1st Learn to Turn Lesson Recap
I had an epiphany last year when I was pregnant and watching a friend’s children take a ski lesson. I realized that though I’ve been snowboarding for 15 years and very comfortable on a board, it will be very difficult to help my son learn strapped to a board. All the parents were on skis which gave them the mobility to tend to their young kids more easily. I needed to learn to ski. I went downhill skiing in 8th grade and it was kind of a disaster. First [...]
Welcome to Winter Program
“I’ve been absolutely amazed every minute this program has happened,” says Katherine Seleski, Pass Powderkeg operations manager and co-organizer of a Dec. 8 ski day for new Canadians. “Once they’re able to get that first turn and realize they’re OK and they’re in this beautiful place, that smile is so good.” Reprinted with Permission from Shootin' the Breeze New Canadians have Magical Day at Pass Powderkeg By Jess Harrington Photos by Sally Ann Taylor Moving to a new country is an experience fraught with challenge. FAQ: Tips for Skiing with Kids
Original Post: FAQ with an Expert- Tips for Skiing with Kids Anyone who reads my blog knows how passionate I am about encouraging people, especially children, to spend as much time outdoors as possible. A couple years ago, I shared information I learned in school about the essential movement skills children need to learn. Included in Canada’s list of essential skills is skating/skiing. It makes sense when you consider how long our winters are. If we don’t teach our children to love outdoor sports, they’ll stay indoors most of [...]

Taking advantage of the crisp temperatures and snowfall we’ve had the past few days, we fired up our snowguns on November 5 and they are making short work of the lower mountain. Opening Day Details: We will be open from 10am-4pm Most of [...]
Downhill Skiing…At Your Doorstep
Contributed by Corrie Bubik, Neighbour and Season Pass Holder One evening last winter, I took the upper t-bar to Chinook at the top of Pass Powderkeg for the first time in probably 15 years. When the lift lights came on, the shadows of the towering trees intensified, and with the crackle of the snow under my skis and wind on my cheeks, the flashbacks from my youth almost brought me to tears. I had, as many Pass kids then and now, nearly lived at the hill in the evenings. The [...]
‘The Local Hill’
This week, we were referred to an open letter posted by Ken Read, one of the original Crazy Canucks, that mentioned Pass Powderkeg and its deep roots as a community ski hill. As we are about to kick off PPK's 80th season, it is a good reminder to us of the importance of local hills like Pass Powderkeg to communities like ours throughout Canada. 80 years is an amazing accomplishment and we are pleased that the PPK is still so embraced by our community. Using the latest census numbers, 66% [...]
